English 4, Post 8 [FINAL], 'English Language challenges'

The English class at the university has made it possible for me to correct some flaws that I had in my vocabulary, as well as learning new terms and a more “native” use of English. I think that blogging is somewhat tedious, but I don't think any other way I have practiced my written English, probably in a common day I do it but with short phrases,  but having to write blogs with +240 words It is necessary to maintain a coherence and cohesion, and that is only achieved by knowing English The aspect that I must improve the most is my pronunciation, unfortunately, perhaps due to the pandemic,  improve my pronunciation was affected because it was not necessary, except for the oral tests, to speak in English. What I plan to do and that I am actually constantly practicing, is to speak with other people in English in order to refine my vocabulary and my way of speaking In addition to English classes, I use English to watch audiovisual content, such as videos on YouTube or movie...

English 4, Post 7, 'Changes to my study programme

Imagen
Honestly, I have various criticisms of the study programme that we have, mainly I think that we have subjects that are simply to be used as filters, such as "electromagnetism" that although it is a scientific subject, it is a totally different area, it is a subject that someone who studies physics or related fields should know, but as biochemists or any other career of the faculty, in our professional life he will never see again.  Also speaking of the same subject, the amount of matter is a lot. And personally, the subjects that concern me are because I entered biochemistry to learn about microbiology and genetics, but those subjects are seen until the 3 or 4 year of career, so anyone who enters the career with an investigative spirit, will be a bad surprise to have to study subjects focused more in chemistry than on pure research, but that I think is already more a problem of student choice, for the same reason I am thinking of changing to another career than have ...

English 4, Post 6, 'Time Travel to the future'

Imagen
I would like to travel 20 or 30 years in the future, without any place in specific, so I think I'll choose this country to stay. I would like to see in what conditions the world and the humanity are by then. With the constant political tension and polarization of human society, and the global warming I'm curious what the future world will be like. I want to imagine that everything will be solved and it will end in good condition. But if I could travel to the future and see directly what is happening, I would use all the time I have to gather information about what has happened and then back to the present and try to change things, or at least be prepared. It would bring together people from different areas, politicians, engineers, philosophers, scientists, among others, to have a more complete vision of what we could do. I would also study the new advancements and discoveries that exist in the future to bring them to the present and make this planet a better place for everyon...

English 4, Post 5, 'My future job'

Imagen
There are two kinds of job that I would like to do One is the scientific research, I like the clinic area, like researching Parkinson's desease, biomedicine, like administer bacteriophages on a wound with a bacterial infection or doing something that have a good impact in the biodiversity, like creating a new device to reduce the CO2 in the environment And the other kind of job, is the divulgation one, at best, I would like to do both simultaneously, but if I had only this, I would like to try to communicate research in a way that reaches the entire population, especially in a country like Chile, where science is despise For research job it would be completely laboratory work, I like the idea of working in a lab with co workers that have the same affinity for research and respect for others. I was invited to a lab like that, in the "laboratory of biotechnology" of Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia While the divulgation job it would be traveling and creating audiovis...

Chilean music This time I'll be talk about something indispensable in my life, that thing is music, or more specifically, Chilean music. When I was younger, around 9-10 years old, I started to play music on internet with the first PC that was in my house, in those years I like to listen rock and metal because I played a lot the videogame "Guitar Hero" and its secuels. Bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles or Metallica where my favorites back then. I also downloaded music from Ares, a pirate app for PC. When I grow up, maybe 14-15 years old, I was part of a band in my ex school, being main guitar. We used to play covers from songs like "La exiliada del sur", "Heroína de New York" or "Hijo del diluvio", as you see, all are Chilean music.  Nowadays, I still enjoy listening Chilean music, but not only Andean or Folk music like I say previously, now I listen all kinds of musical genres, like rap (ChysteMc), salsa (Moral distraida), trova (Tata Bara...

Bacteriophage as a solution against bacterial infections  In our actual world, thanks to Fleming and other scientists who have contributed to the field of antibiotics, a wound doesn't seem like a big deal to us, quite the opposite of what the same would could mean 300 years ago, where the only solution at best was to amputate the implicated limb and in most cases, an infected wound was an certain death. The famous king, Richard the Lionheart, died in 1199 from an infected shoulder wound But the overuse of antibiotics has caused an unexpected problem. The misusing of them, for headaches, physical pain and colds has caused to bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics. These bacterias are called "superbugs", microorganisms capable of resisting any existing modern medicine. This fact will return us to the same situation that existed before penicillin. If we don't have a containment mechanism against bacteria, a simple injury could cost us our lives. There is still a sal...

Post 2, 'Choosing between: (a) The best holidays or (b) The best concert'

Imagen
The best holidays for me it was in March 2020, just before the quarantine due to sars-cov2 These were my vacations before going to study at the university, so I wanted to travel and enjoy as much as possible, among the different parts I went, including Concepción and Temuco, the place that I liked the most was the valley of Cochamó, where I meet its slides and climb its mountains. To get there we took a bus in Puerto Montt that left us on the outskirts of the valley, we had to walk a little more than 6 hours uphill to reach the camping point, it is really a trip that demands great effort When we got to the place, the first thing we did was set up the tent, eat something and sleep to the next day. In the following days we travel across the valley, we met different routes, hills and the most beautiful thing about this place, its slides. There is no type of communication with the outside world, there is no telephone signal, the radio only picks up a local station and there is no food for ...
